• Responsible for performing a variety of activities to service, repair and maintain vehicles and heavy equipment such as semi-tractors, trailers, live haul loaders, pickup trucks, etc.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, service, and repair vehicles and their systems such as mechanical, air brake systems, transmissions, and pneumatic systems, etc.

  • Troubleshoot malfunctions in the equipment and make necessary repairs:

  • Brakes: Repair or replace shoes, pads, drums, hoses, calipers, cylinders and heavy-duty air brakes.

  • Cooling:
    Flush radiator, replace hoses and thermostat, repair or replace radiator and water pump, fan drives, DCA treatment filters, air intercoolers and oil coolers.

  • Drive:
    Repair drive shaft, differential, axel, manual and automatic transmissions, clutches, transfer cases, etc.

  • Electrical:
    Repair or replace fuses, batteries, lights, instruments, warning devices, controls or switches, computer controls, modules, alternators, starters, and defective cables and wiring.

  • Exhaust and Emissions Control:
    Replace mufflers, manifolds, catalytic converters, blowers, and pipes.

  • Heating and Air Conditioning:
    Repairs or replace heater cores, condensers, compressors, hoses and controls; recharge air conditioning systems.

  • Hydraulic:
    Repair or replace pumps, hoses, valves, winches and cylinders.

  • Air:
    Repair or replace compressors, air dryers, brake valves, air tanks and hoses.

  • Steering and Suspension:
    Align and balance wheels, repair or replace tie rods, ball joints, gear boxes, shock absorbers, springs, steering linkage, kingpins, power steering, hoses, pumps, air suspensions, etc.

  • Coupling Devices:
    Adjust, repair, inspect and replace various hitches

  • Fabricate, modify and install special equipment or replacement parts using welders, torch sets, metal cutting saws, etc.

  • Maintain service logs and records of maintenance on vehicles.

  • Perform routine maintenance checks and adjustments on such things as fluid levels, hoses, belts, brakes, tires, and clutches, changes filters and oil, lubricates vehicles.

  • Tune gas and diesel engines.

  • Keep tools, equipment, and work area clean, organized, and in good working condition.

  • Follow company safety rules and procedures; abide federal DOT laws as required.

  • Perform other comparable and related duties, as assigned.

  • 5 years of experience repairing various vehicles and their systems; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
